South Lyon East offers a wide variety of programming and community service event throughout the school year. Some highlights of the 16-17 school year were:
In October, we typically have the last home game of the year as our annual Pink Out. We sell t-shirts and other items to donate money to Susan G. Komen. We raised around $1,000.
In December, we donate food and hygiene products to our local community outreach program to aid needy families in the area, which is called Active Faith. We collect more than 2,000 items each year.
In March, we do a large 'Support the Troops' fundraiser throughout the school. We donate the money to the local Injured Soldier project, which supports troops returning home from war.
Throughout the year, we have a SADD committee, for Students Against Drunk and Distracted Driving. They raise awareness through the school via announcements and promoting good driving behaviors. In addition, this year the committee is able to attend a driving seminar on safe driving.
And obviously, our school also does Homecoming for the entire school, and Prom for the Juniors and Seniors. On occasion other charities and events will occur throughout the year, and student council usually supports those causes as well.
